Dear Afrikan people,
Do you understand that Tithing is completely crazy. The tithe was an OLD Testament rule if you even beleive in the bible and you gave grain, not money? Real talk, your giving to GOD (????) but have nothing for your own family. Do you have an emergency fund with 6 months worth if savings? Does your children have college funds? Are you saving for retirement or funeral cost( in case the Rapture doesn’t come). Giving all your money because you think you will be cursed with a curse is lunancy and based in fear. The black church in the United States brings in millions of dollars each Sunday, yet blacks still live in poverty. Open your 3rd eye and build for your own family. Pay your bills on time, work on that credit score, buy property, invest in stocks, and realize giving 10% will not make you more blessed. @sommernicole0612
Over the years I’ve seen people use the phrase “if you knew better you’d do better” on social media usually to throw shade and most likely at another female in regards to a man being with someone else. In this case I use it in regards to a post one of my dearest sisters shared on Instagram – yup that one right up top there. Although this post holds major truths, those within the ‘church’ sector seemed to have been offended by it.

Since when did challenging people (especially black people) to do better become a crazy thing to do? I honestly would like to know from those who were offended by this post or other posts like it, what their current financial status is. (I’ll wait for a rebuttal) What is their credit score? Do they have a savings account that can sustain their family for a significant period of time? Do they have a 401k/403b or any investment fund for retirement? In case you didn’t know, trying to live off of Social Security after retirement isn’t going to be enough and that’s granted they even have funds for people in 30+ years. Now back to the questions….do you own any property or are you paying rent to someone who already has all these things? And last but surely not least, DO YOU HAVE LIFE INSURANCE for yourself and your children??? I am over seeing all these Go Fund Me pages asking people to donate to someone’s funeral costs. We don’t know when it will be our time to go so why not prepare for it now. And let me let you in on a lil something…the church is not going to pay for anyone’s final expenses, I don’t care how faithful you are. If you are a member, yes, you can have your service or that of an immediate relative there, but just know the records will be checked to see if you are in good standing with paying tithes before this can happen. So instead of immediately going on the defense when someone challenges your beliefs, how about you take a minute to look past your feelings and survey the context of the subject and then maybe you will see how you can begin to make some changes. The reality of the matter is knowledge is power and striving to better yourself puts you in a healthier place mentally, financially and spiritually.

It cracks me up that most people won’t read past the first sentence before they take offense to the truth. The minute someone says something about paying tithes, or any other religious act or tradition, people go all crazy and say the person has “lost it” or the “devil” has their mind or whatever. No, its not the devil. No they have not gone crazy. They have just been awaken and now see the light. We quote scriptures like “Faith without works is dead” and “ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” but when someone brings the truth and shows how to work one’s faith, they are looked at like they should be stoned. The question now is, why aren’t there more churches doing more to increase the financial stability of its parishioners? Why is it ok for the “leaders” to be prosperous but those that are following them and giving their all are struggling day to day? God is no respecter of persons right? Then why aren’t we all able to be prosperous in this life? And let me clarify what I mean by prosperous; I don’t just mean big houses, fancy cars and shopping on the hoity toity side of the King of Prussia Mall. Being prosperous means not having to live pay check to pay check, being able to save money for emergencies, having good credit, owning property, running business or having skills to obtain a good job. Shoot being in good health mentally and physically. That is real prosperity. Along with the scriptures, these are the things that should be taught in our places of worship. People aren’t looking for church services to be “lit” and “crazy” but when you ask what happened, they can’t really explain anything other than the emotional portion of the service. What happens after you get up off the floor, or stop crying, or sit down after shouting? People looking for the truth and for guidance on how to live in this crazy world and it take more than prayer and a good church service to do so.

These days people aren’t being taught how to fish. Just think how much b
etter our religious institutions could function if people were able to lift the burdens of debt and poverty. It’s time to stop draining the little that people have and help them build wealth in all aspects of life which will cause them to be able to help to others. That would bring real joy to the lives of people and not just pacify them with the “hope tactic” – keep hoping that things will change. Thing will not change until you begin to put the work in. Equipping people with the tools needed to navigate this life will ensure that they have life and that more abundantly. But that takes people who aren’t afraid to see others succeed and possibly do better than you…..
